SHOULD YOU STILL BE CONSIDERING A RUSTIC WEDDING?
Rustic is not for everyone. The weathered look of rustic tin or mix and match candlesticks is a far cry from velvet and crystal. No doubt, if you are picking out a Cristiano Lucci or Ines Di Santo gown, you are unlikely a burlap and daisies kind-of-girl. But there are plenty of brides that are, and in my opinion, the rustic wedding is here to stay. At least 15% of weddings today are rustic in style and that number is higher if you count “rustic chic”. I’m sure Maggie Lord of Rustic Wedding Chic would agree. Maggie is also a contributing writer to the Huffington Post and brings her insight on the celebrated blog.
In a Huffington Post interview with Ariane Fisher of WeddingMix, Maggie and I both talked a little bit about why rustic wedding details are still popular with 21st century couples, alongside the opinion of four other esteemed wedding industry experts.
I think one of the main reasons rustic décor was showing up everywhere in past decades was out of practicality. Glamorous weddings are not for everyone, sometimes due to being cost prohibitive, by nature. Many do-it-yourself couples instead turned to the elements of nature around them and incorporated items that they could craft themselves. For other couples, rustic was simply their style and they embraced it.
For many today, the long-running trend of “rustic-chic” also known as “rustic-glam” mixes elements from both styles and incorporates the best of both worlds. Take a gander at some great inspiration examples below.
